Trulli are examples of architecture which has a universal value as they constitute a unique testimony to a civilisation which has now disappeared. In fact in 1996 UNESCO recognised the trulli of Alberobello as a world heritage site.
However, at the beginning of the 19th century in Alborobello they began to build case civili, private dwellings of ample dimensions which comprised several rooms and with the relative conveniences as they were at the time.
Palazzo Signorini is centrally situated just off the piazza in Alborobello from where you can view the entire zone of trulli.
The building goes back to the middle of the 18th century and is comprised of ground floor, first floor, second floor and a large locale at ground floor level, detached from the main building but connected by crossing an ample sized garden. The gross area is 780 sqm.
The ground floor comprises of 5 rooms plus a storeroom and the garden and communicates to the entrance hall and the stairs which lead to the floors above.
The first floor comprises of 9 rooms, 3 of which have balconies which face to the front of the building. These rooms have vaulted ceilings which were painted by local artists of the time. This floor benefits from 2 large stone terraces although all the rooms have ample solid wood windows and doors to allow plenty of light.
The second floor comprises of 4 rooms and a bathroom. Access from here is to the roof terrace which affords panoramic views of the entire area.
The maximum care and the valuable details which come together throughout the building denote the attention and wisdom of the old builders, making the entire complex a prestigious palazzo.
